Emily Watson to receive major honour soon

Considered one of the top stars, Emily Watson is set to receive the Richard Harris Award at the British Independent Film Awards. 

Damian, Jared and Jamie Harris, children of the Irish actor on whose name the award has been given, share in a statement, “Emily’s first film was Lars von Trier’s epic ‘Breaking the Waves,’ which is like saying the first mountain she climbed was Everest."

They continue, It was a fearless and devastating performance and was rightly recognized with multiple honors, and her first Oscar nomination. Since then, there have been a succession of Emily Watson performances that have again rightly been acknowledged with nominations, honors, and awards, including a BIFA."

"Emily is too young to be called a national treasure, but any performance of hers is a cultural event and she enhances the quality of everything in which she appears. She rightly takes her place alongside the past recipients of the Richard Harris Award.”

The honour is a nod to the actress's outstanding career in British cinema, which began on stage. It was a Royal Shakespeare Company show that took place in the 1990s.

Her career boomed after this, when she received an Academy Award nomination for her debut movie, Breaking Waves, in 1996. Two years later, her second nod came for her role in Hilary and Jackie.

In addition to this, the star has appeared in several hit credits, including The Boxer (1997), Punch-Drunk Love (2002), Red Dragon (2002), Corpse Bride (2005), Synecdoche, New York (2008), War Horse (2011), The Theory of Everything (2014) and Small Things Like These.

It is worth noting that Emily recently starred in the Netflix drama Steve. Meanwhile, the 28th BIFA Awards ceremony is set to take place on Nov. 30.
