KARACHI: After the country’s greatest charity icon, Abdul Sattar Edhi, another social worker and humanitarian, Aban Jamal, died on Tuesday.
Aban Jamal donated her eyes to two blind persons as per her will. She was famous for her dedicated efforts for the paralyzed and disabled children to overcome their disability.
The two eyes were transplanted to the two blind persons at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) this afternoon. The operation was successful and 40 year old peasant Farooq and an operator Ali Nawaz were the beneficiaries of Aban's eyes. Both Farooq and Ali were able to experience the sense of sight for the very first time.
According to Pakistan Eye Bank Society, much needs to be done for an eye donation movement in Pakistan as blindness seems to be on the rise in the country.
Earlier this month, renowned philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi also passed away on July 8 due to breathing complications.
