KARACHI: The police and investigation teams seem to be in two minds regarding who committed the murder of prominent qawwal Amjad Sabri in Karachi.
According to details, a segment of the police claim that Amjad Sabri's murderer is a suspect by the name of Imran Siddiqui, who was arrested by police a couple of days ago. However, senior police officials claim that Imran is not the murderer of the slain qawwal and that no arrests had been made in this regard.
Senior police officials have claimed that according to the geo-fencing of the case, neither was the suspect at the scene of the crime when the murder took place and neither could he be identified by any witnesses. They also claimed that the murder weapon used to kill Sabri was also not recovered from the suspect.
On the other hand, the suspect's relatives have also claimed that he is innocent. Additional I.G. Mushtaq Mehar claimed that the group behind Sabri's killing had been identified but the shooters could not be arrested yet.
Meanwhile, Additional I.G. C.T.D. Sanaullah Abbasi said that there was not sufficient evidence to arrive at the conclusion that any group was behind the murder of Amjad Sabri.
Sources close to the investigation team claim that Amjad Sabri's murder inquiry is being conducted from four different angles. Different investigating authorities also differ with regard to the various angles being adopted to solve the murder.
