Karachi: An anti-polio campaign is set to begin in Karachi and interior Sindh on Monday and will continue till the next five days.
During the first phase, polio teams will administer polio drops to children belonging to 51 union councils of Karachi while the remaining areas will be covered in the second phase.
More than 8,065,000 children will be administered polio drops during this campaign. Recently a polio case was discovered in Gadap Town.
Furthermore, an anti-polio drive in Balochistan is also set to start on Monday in 10 districts.
Pakistan happens to be one of the two countries in the world where polio still has not been eradicated. The other country happens to be Afghanistan, which shares the border with Pakistan.
Violence and a deteriorating law and order situation have also hampered efforts by polio teams in the past to administer polio drops and vaccinate children. Polio team volunteers have been targeted in attacks and killed to dissuade them from providing polio drops to the local population.
