DUBAI: Former Punjab Governor Latif Khosa said on Sunday that the issue pertaining to extension in Rangers' powers would soon be resolved.

Addressing media personnel, Khosa said that the PPP was still committed to the Charter of Democracy. Khosa said that the government's stance was not to include the Prime Minister's name in the terms of reference. Latif Khosa said that if the government did not agree to a transparent inquiry pertaining to Panama leaks, then PPP would bring forth a bill into the parliament.

Regarding the issue of Rangers' extension and powers, Khosa said that the Chief Minister was the Chief Executive hence he had the legal right to call the paramilitary force anytime.

"The issue of Rangers' extension and powers will be resolved by today," he said. "Rangers' have done impressive work in Karachi and established peace in the city," he said.

Khosa also said that it was not fair to assume or say that Sindh police did not have any hand in restoring law and order in the city. He gave credit to both Rangers and police for establishing peace in Karachi.

Latif Khosa also criticized Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan several times during his press conference.

"Chaudhry Nisar should wait his turn. He should stop issuing threats," said Latif Khosa. "After the 18th Amendment, Nisar cannot interfere in matters of provincial autonomy," he added.

Latif Khosa also alleged that it was Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan who had help set up the banners inviting Pakistan army chief to stage a coup in the country. Khosa said that the Interior Minister wanted ties between Nawaz Sharif and the army chief to deteriorate so that he could assume the office of Prime Minister for himself.

Khosa said that he knew that terrorists had found a safe haven in South Punjab.

A meeting earlier in Dubai was held by PPP's senior leadership and was presided over by co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari. The meeting remained inconclusive regarding the issue of Rangers' extension and powers in Sindh.
