ISLAMABAD: Power consumers may see a cut in their December electricity bills after the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) petitioned to the Nepra that distribution companies are willing to refund Rs0.65 per unit, citing overcharging in October.

In its petition, filed with the Nepra on behalf of ex-Wapda distribution companies (Discos) and K-Electric, the CPPA said the reference fuel charges for October were Rs9.3685/unit, while the actual cost of power generation averaged Rs8.7177/unit. The CPPA-G has sought the regulator’s nod for the refund of Rs0.6508/unit overcharged from the consumers during October through the FCA mechanism.

According to data provided by CPPA-G, total power generation in October stood at 9,886 gigawatt hours (GWh), costing Rs84.1 billion or Rs8.5062/unit.

After accounting for transmission losses, IPP sales and prior adjustments, the net supply to Discos was 9,630 GWh at Rs83.949 billion or Rs8.7177/unit, the CPPA-G petition said. The sale price to Discos also includes Rs0.11 unit on account of prior adjustments.
