LAHORE: The Punjab Government School Education Department (SED) has issued an urgent, province-wide directive ordering strict enforcement of all security measures in public and private educational institutions, citing heightened security concerns across the country.

The official communication, a copy of which is available with The News has been circulated to all Chief Executive Officers of District Education Authorities (DEAs),the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF), the Punjab Education Initiatives Management Authority (PEIMA), the Punjab Education Curriculum, Training & Assessment Authority (PECTAA), the Punjab

The department has emphasised that all previously circulated security protocols covering perimeter protection, access control, surveillance checks, entry monitoring and on-ground vigilance must now be implemented “in true letter and spirit” without exception. In a major administrative shift, the government has placed full and direct responsibility on the heads of both public and private schools to ensure the safety and protection of students, teachers and staff within their institutions. Officials say this renewed insistence on accountability comes amid evolving national security challenges and reflects the need for educational institutions to remain fully prepared against potential threats.

In addition to these measures, the directive orders an immediate, comprehensive security audit of all public and private schools across Punjab. Any deficiencies identified during the inspections must be rectified without delay. Supervisory officers have also been instructed to conduct daily school visits solely for the purpose of monitoring security arrangements, with the department stressing that even minor lapses would not be tolerated.

The School Education Department has further directed all relevant authorities to disseminate the instructions down to the last administrative tier to ensure province-wide compliance. The matter has been marked as “MOST IMPORTANT” and “TOP PRIORITY” by the Director (Monitoring). Copies of the directive have also been forwarded to the Director of Public Instructions (SE/EE), the Secretary and Special Secretary of the School Education Department, and the Additional Secretary (General).
