Gas supply disrupted in Quetta after major pipeline rupture
QUETTA: Gas supply to Quetta and several surrounding areas was disrupted on Saturday after a high-pressure transmission pipeline of the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) ruptured near Mach.
According to SSGC spokesperson Salman Ahmed Siddiqui, an 18-inch-diameter QPCEP pipeline ruptured at around 5 a.m., affecting gas supply to multiple districts of Balochistan. The interruption hit Pishin, Kuchlak, Ziarat, Bustan, Hurmuzai, Mastung, Kalat, Mangocher, Kad Kocha and nearby areas.
The spokesperson said that as an interim arrangement, gas supply is being maintained at a limited level and low pressure through the company’s 12-inch QPL line to some suburban parts of Quetta, including Nawan Killi, Hanna, Sra Ghurgai, Pashtunabad and Eastern Bypass.
He added that SSGC’s technical teams were immediately dispatched to the site and efforts are underway to repair the damaged pipeline at the earliest. The company apologised to consumers for the inconvenience and said emergency measures are being taken to ensure gas availability during cooking hours in urban areas.
“It is too early to give a timeline for the completion of repair work, but the company will continue to keep its consumers updated on the situation,” the spokesperson added.
