ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced new security measures for the capital, including a mandatory electronic vehicle tag (E-tag) system for all vehicles entering Islamabad.
The decision follows a deadly suicide bombing earlier this week near the Judicial Complex that killed 12 people and injured several others.
Minister of State for Interior Senator Talal Chaudhry detailed the new restrictions during a press conference outside the Parliament House on Thursday, where he was joined by IG Islamabad Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi and the deputy commissioner.
Chaudhry announced that in the coming phase, “No vehicle will be allowed entry into the federal capital without an E-tag.” He explained that the measure was designed to monitor vehicle movement and significantly strengthen the city’s security. In a parallel move to enhance public safety, the government will also launch a “Secure Neighbourhood Survey,” described as the first of its kind.
The survey’s primary objective is to provide authorities with comprehensive information on residents and workers. “The purpose of this survey is to enable Islamabad authorities to know who is residing or working in every house, shop and office,” the minister for state said.
