Apple slammed for charging $230 for iPhone Pockets, netizens react
Short-strap iPhone Pockets will cost $150, while the long-strap iPhone Pocket will retail at $230
Apple has just launched a new product for iPhone users but netizens are not happy with it.
The American tech giant’s newly launched "iPhone Pockets" has become the talk of the town after being badly ridiculed by Apple users and other community members.
Although the phone-making company has shared a simple, uniformly knitted phone pocket design with a range of vibrant colors to choose from, it has failed to impress the users because of its high cost.
The product pricing unveils that short-strap iPhone Pockets will cost around $150, while the long-strap iPhone Pockets will retail at $230 per piece.
The iPhone company informs that this limited-edition "one-piece pocket product" launch was a fashion collaboration with the Japanese design house Issey Miyake.
Some people also mentioned that it’s an Apple take on the "old luxury socks".
Others are criticizing the newly launched "iPhone Pockets" as the "new money-making tactic".
Netizens are raising questions about why they need to have extra phone holders when they already have bags and pockets for that purpose.
According to some iPhone users, purchasing an Apple phone is itself a heavy investment and now buying an additional phone pocket would cost them an arm and a leg.
Commenters on social media also raised safety concerns, noting that the open pocket may welcome more thieves for mobile snatching.
While one of the users also wrote, “At $149-$230 for this phone sock, Apple is the actual theif.”
Others joked that "instead of paying Apple the heavy price for these pocket socks, they can ask their grandmothers to knit phone pockets for them".
3D-knitted "iPhone Pockets" were designed by the same designer who used to design Steve Jobs’ turtleneck sweaters for winters.
The designer director of Miyake Design Studio said, “iPhone Pocket explores the concept of the joy of wearing an iPhone in your own way.”
He further expressed “the design of iPhone Pocket speaks to the bond between iPhone and its user while keeping in mind that Apple products are designed to be universal in aesthetic and versatile in use.”
