ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Human Rights informed the National Assembly that an alarming 173,367 cases of violence against women had been reported nationwide between 2021 and 2024.
During the Question Hour in the National Assembly, the Ministry of Human Rights presented detailed statistics showing incidents of murder, domestic abuse, honour killings, sexual violence, harassment, and abduction during the four-year period (2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024).
According to the data on registered cases of violence against women, maintained by the National Police Bureau, during the four-year period (2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024), 5,948 cases of murder, 8,799 cases of beating, and 2,304 cases of other forms of domestic violence were reported nationwide. In the category of honour killings, 1,553 women lost their lives, while 127 acid attack cases and 300 stove-burning incidents were recorded.
Under the head of sexual violence, authorities reported 16,135 cases of rape, 1,636 of gang rape, 121 cases of custodial assault, and 1,154 cases of incest during the four-year period (2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024). As many as 445 cases of physical harassment, 182 cases of sexual harassment, and five incidents of psychological harassment at workplaces were reported during the four-year period (2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024).
The most alarming figure came from the kidnapping and abduction category, where 89,599 cases were registered, while 44,057 incidents were classified under “other forms of violence” during the four-year period (2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024).
