ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has appreciated Qatar’s role in promoting peace and understanding through media diplomacy.
Nasser Bin Faisal Bin Khalifa Al Thani, director general of Al Jazeera Media Network, called on the president in Doha on Thursday. Zardari lauded Qatar’s principled stance on regional and international issues, particularly its leadership in efforts to end the suffering of the Palestinian people and bring peace to Gaza. Welcoming the DG, he appreciated Qatar’s warm hospitality and excellent meetings held with the Qatari leadership, including Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the emir of Qatar, the prime minister, and the minister for defence.
He commended Al Jazeera’s global role in promoting objective journalism and fostering understanding among nations. Al Thani thanked Zardari for the opportunity to call on him and appreciated Pakistan’s support and solidarity with Qatar during the recent crisis and its consistent advocacy for the people of Palestine. He said a high-powered Al Jazeera delegation would soon visit Pakistan to gain Pakistan’s perspective on key regional and global issues.
The meeting was attended by Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Pakistan’s ambassador to Qatar.
