LAHORE: Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiren on Tuesday visited the Punjab Home Department and met Secretary Home Dr Ahmad Javed Qazi to discuss law and order and security arrangements for Chinese nationals in the province, according to a spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department.
The Chinese consul general said China was working on major infrastructure projects in Pakistan and Chinese companies were keen to further invest in the country. He praised the Punjab Home Department’s efforts for maintaining peace and security, particularly for Chinese nationals. He handed over a bulletproof car to the department. The vehicle will be used for the movement of Chinese engineers and investors. Both sides signed an agreement in this regard.
Dr Qazi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all Chinese workers, including those associated with CPEC projects, as well as Chinese tourists. He stated that foolproof security measures have been implemented in all industrial zones across Punjab, and that the government has already provided a bulletproof van to the FIEDMC from its own resources. “We are fully focused on the security and facilitation of all Chinese nationals in Punjab. The Special Protection Unit’s capacity is being further enhanced,” the secretary said, adding that federal directives regarding secure movement of Chinese citizens were being strictly implemented. He noted that Home Department offices remained open for Chinese officials and nationals at all times and expressed gratitude for China’s consistent support.
The Chinese side also showed interest in products made by inmates under prison reforms initiatives.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Consul General of China, Special Secretary Home, Additional Secretary Foreign National Security, Additional Secretary Internal Security, and other senior officials.
