ISLAMABAD: The federal government employees got a major relief on Tuesday, as the Ministry of Housing and Works notified 85% increase in their monthly rental ceiling.
The increase in the rental ceiling applies to all the federal government employees in Islamabad and the four provinces.
According to the office memorandum issued by the Ministry, the increase in rental ceiling would be effective from November 01, 2025.
Approving a summary of the Ministry of Housing and Works, the federal cabinet had allowed considerable increase in the rental ceiling.
In terms of amount, officers from BPS-17 to BPS-22 are major beneficiaries of increase in the rental ceiling. However, the rental ceiling in Islamabad is over Rs10% higher than the ceiling in four provincial capitals. It is also feared that the monthly rents of houses in the federal capital and Rawalpindi will witness a sharp increase with the government’s announcement of enhancement in the rental ceiling.
The rental ceiling of BPS-22 bureaucrats for Islamabad has been increased from Rs98,444 to 182,121 and for provincial capital, the ceiling will increase to Rs165,076 from Rs89,230.
The rental ceiling of BPS-21 officers increases from Rs82,261 to Rs152,183 (Islamabad) and from Rs71,107 to Rs131,548 (provincial capitals); for BPS-20 officers rental ceiling increases from Rs68,700 to 127,095 (Islamabad) and from Rs59,079 to Rs109,296 (provincial capitals).
The rental ceiling for BPS-19 officers increases from existing Rs54,704 to Rs101,202 (Islamabad) and from Rs46,816 to Rs66,411 (provincial capitals) and for BPS-17 and BPS-18 officers, the rental ceiling increases from Rs41,147 to Rs76,122 (Islamabad) and from Rs35,898 to Rs66,411 (provincial capitals).
The rental ceiling for BPS-14 to BPS-16 employees increases from Rs31,085 to Rs57,507 (Islamabad) and from Rs27,134 to Rs50,198 provincial capitals); rental ceiling for employees from BS-7 to BS-10 increases from Rs16,403 to Rs30,346 (Islamabad) and from Rs14,682 to Rs27,162 (provincial capitals).
The low scale employees from BS-1 to BS-5 also got some relief. The rental ceiling of employees from BS-3 to BS-6 will increase from existing Rs10,980 to Rs20,313 (Islamabad) and from Rs9,654 to Rs17,860 (provincial capitals), while BS-1 and BS-2 employees get increase from Rs7,029 to Rs13,004 (Islamabad) and from Rs6,591 to Rs12,193 (provincial capitals).
