ISLAMABAD: Former chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani has said the federal government has crippled the parliament as no issue relating to national security, foreign or economic policy and agreements with foreign countries pertaining to Pakistan’s national resources are discussed in it.

“A very serious situation with Afghanistan, which effects internal and external security, exists as talks are being held through third party mediation, ministers are making serious statements, but the floor of parliament is silent,” he said in a statement on Monday. He said the parliament must rise and assert itself and take the government to task. The change in the dynamics of the foreign policy with reference to the US and meetings with the US president have been kept away from the parliament. Various agreements made or being made with US companies pertaining to minerals and other natural resources have not been brought to the parliament.

He demanded that that the parliament enact a law where all foreign agreements would require “ratification” from the parliament, within three months of their signing in order to become effective. The question whether troops will be sent to Gaza and what will be their mandate is being talked about by ministers on TV shows or social media to the exception of the parliament.
