PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has decided to file a contempt of court petition against authorities for denying him permission to meet Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan despite court orders allowing the meeting.
According to official sources, the chief minister has written a letter to the Registrar of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advocate General Shah Faisal Uthmankhel, requesting the certified copy of the court’s order issued on October 23. The copy, he said, was required to proceed with the contempt petition.
The letter stated that the IHC, while hearing a petition filed by the chief minister, had directed the Adiala jail administration in Rawalpindi to facilitate his meeting with the PTI founder. However, when the chief minister went to jail, the administration refused to allow the meeting, in clear violation of the court’s directive.
The letter further noted that although an application for the certified copy of the court’s order had already been submitted, the document had not yet been provided. The chief minister maintained that obtaining the certified copy was essential for initiating legal proceedings to ensure compliance with the court’s order and uphold the rule of law. Officials said the KP government had decided to pursue the matter in court once the certified order was received.
