ECC approves Rs455.984m for ECP to conduct LB polls
ISLAMABAD: In a wide-ranging meeting, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) approved Rs 455.984 million for the Election Commission of Pakistan to conduct local bodies’ polls.
The committee also resumed the import and export of precious metals and gold jewellery, lifting a suspension imposed in May 2025.
The proposal on vehicle imports, which faced opposition from the Ministry of Industries and other participants who argued the schemes were widely misused, was sent back for further stakeholder consultation. The commerce ministry had sought to introduce seven stricter conditions, including increasing the minimum stay abroad requirement to three years, making imported vehicles non-transferable for one year, and applying the same safety and environmental standards used for commercial imports.
