Third party to verify bills of LDA completed projects

LAHORE:To ensure transparency and quality of construction work, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) constituted a committee to verify bills of development projects through a third party.

Sources in LDA revealed that the issue of alleged complaints of poor quality of construction material and unauthorised overspending by the authority’s Engineering Wing echoed at the recently held authority’s meeting.

They claimed that later the decision of making a committee to verify the bills and quality of work of development projects was added in the minutes of the meeting on the directions of the CM Maryam Nawaz.

As per the minutes of the meeting, available with The News, the authority constituted a committee for vetting of work done and expenditure incurred on the schemes before making payments.

The committee comprised over Additional DG (Housing) as Convener and members of the committee were Director P&D, Director Engineering (Concerned) and Resident EngNespak (third party).

The meeting minutes stated that the Engineering Wing will route its bills of fore-mentioned schemes through this committee who will physically verify the work done as per approved scope of work.

Sources claimed so far not a single meeting of the committee was not held and it was also not clear that the committee will check the bills of the ongoing development projects or not.When contacted, the LDA spokesperson said the real purpose of the move was to verify the done development work through a committee and a third party.

He said this will improve the overall quality and transparency of the work.Meanwhile, LDA collected revenue of more than Rs3.47 billion in a single auction in its fourth public auction of this year held at Expo Center here on Tuesday.

LDA DGTahir Farooq said that this was the highest record revenue of LDA in any single auction so far. He said LDA auctioned 36 residential and commercial plots, petrol pump sites, marquee sites, health/education sites, public utility sites, sports complex cafeteria and salon tenancy rights and plots of different sizes.
