ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted a five-member committee for the selection of 7th Chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra).
Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar is heading the committee which has representatives of different bodies and organisations.Atta Tarar confirmed it to The News/Jang Monday evening at the farewell dinner/music evening for outgoing Federal Secretary for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) Ms Ambreen Jan at a local hotel. The 6th Chairman Pemra Muhammad Saleem Baig was also among the guests.
It is understood that Ms Ambreen Jan and her predecessor Ms Shahida Shahir are also among the personalities besides Muhammad Saleem who would be considered for the slot. Three former federal secretaries for information namely Ashfaq Ahmad Gondal, Imran Gardezi, Shafqat Jalil, Ms Shahida Shahir, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Arshad Munir Khan, Additional Secretary Information Ashfaq Khalil were also present in the farewell.
Attaullah Tarar said that new Federal Secretary for Information and Broadcasting would be appointed in four to five days. The Chairman Pemra’s selection would be made afterwards in a couple of days.To a query he made it clear that new Federal Secretary of MIB would be brought from the Information Service of Pakistan (ISP) as it wouldn’t be from the outside service.
