Deadline for filing income tax returns extended to Oct 31
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for the Tax Year 2025 to October 31, 2025. This decision, prompted by road blockades and internet slowdowns over the past couple of days, is the second extension granted this season.
As of October 15, 2025, the FBR had received over 5.2 million income tax returns, compared to 4.6 million by the same date last year. The board has also collected Rs114 billion alongside these returns in the current fiscal year.
According to an official announcement, the extension was granted under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, in response to requests from various trade bodies and tax bar associations.
The FBR had previously extended the initial September 30 deadline to October 15 after receiving more than four million returns. This latest extension was approved by the finance minister and FBR chairman, who are currently in Washington DC to attend the annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank.
The FBR has set an annual tax collection target of Rs14.13 trillion for the current fiscal year. Of this, Rs11.65 trillion is to be collected through Direct Taxes and Sales Tax by the IRS, while the target for Customs duty collection is Rs1.588 trillion.
