NOWSHERA: Unidentified armed men opened fire on a polio team in the Kahai area of Nizampur, resulting in the martyrdom of a police constable assigned to the security of workers, officials said.

The anti-polio campaign was being conducted in the Kahai area of the Nizampur town when unidentified gunmen attacked the polio team.

Constable Maqsood Ali, who was providing security to the team, was martyred after being shot on the spot. The attackers fled after snatching an official rifle from the cop.

The body of the martyred constable was shifted to a hospital for postmortem. Police subsequently launched a large-scale search operation in the area after sealing all routes in and out of Nizampur Kahai. Later, the funeral prayer for Maqsood Ali was offered at the Nowshera Police Lines with state honors.
