KURRAM: Afghan Taliban and Fitna al-Khawarij opened unprovoked fire on Pakistani positions along the border in Kurram district, security sources said on Tuesday.
According to the sources, Pakistani troops gave a strong and immediate response, targeting the firing positions of the Afghan Taliban and Fitna-e-Khawarij with intense retaliatory fire.
The exchange inflicted severe damage to multiple Taliban posts, while flames were seen rising from their positions, the sources added. The sources further confirmed that Taliban’s several tank positions were destroyed in the counter-fire, forcing the attackers to abandon their posts and flee from the area. Sources said the Pakistan armed forces destroyed an Afghan Taliban post and tank position known as Shamshad Post in Kurram sector, adding that Taliban forces fled, leaving several bodies at the post.
In Khost, Afghanistan, the fifth tank position, Nargsar Post, along with tank stationed there and its crew, were destroyed, the sources said.
Security sources said reports also received of the killing of an important commander of Fitna al-Khawarij in the operation by the Pakistan Army.
In response to the intense retaliatory action by Pakistani forces, Taliban raised a white flag over one of their border posts, according to security sources. After hoisting the white flag, they abandoned the post and fled, the sources added. This marks the second incident in recent days involving cross-border aggression by the Afghan Taliban and Fitna al-Khawarij.
