LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has expressed concern over hike in the prices of tomatoes and other vegetables in markets.
She chaired a meeting on Tuesday and directed all stakeholders to take immediate measures to bring down vegetable prices and ensure their availability in markets across Punjab. She directed authorities that price lists should be prominently displayed at all shops and entrances of marketplaces, so that consumers can clearly see and compare price rates of edibles and other commodities. She was presented a comprehensive strategic plan by the Price Control and Commodity Management Department, outlining various reforms and technological interventions aimed at improving price regulation and consumer protection across Punjab.
The CM was briefed on strict enforcement of price control laws across Punjab. She was apprised that 368,000 shops were inspected, Rs5 crore 48 lac fine was imposed, 321 FIRs were registered and 4,607 arrests were made for committing violations of the Price Control Act.
Meanwhile, Maryam directed authorities to eliminate slips and complete digitalization of all toll plazas in Punjab, besides implementing motorway-style one app one system at 38 electronic toll plazas. She passed these directions while chairing a meeting to review progress of C&W and LDA projects in the province. She approved beautification projects for Lahore. She said Railway Station, Misri Shah, Data Darbar, Ik Moria and Do Moria Bridges will be beautified and revamped.
Later, the CM met Speaker Türkiye’s Grand National Assembly Dr Numan Kurtulmu & Speaker Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. Maryam warmly welcomed the visiting parliamentary delegations from Türkiye and Azerbaijan. She lauded Türkiye and Azerbaijan for their unwavering support to Pakistan, particularly for their principled stance on the Kashmir issue and their strong condemnation of recent Indian aggression.
Dr Numan Kurtulmu said: “We stand firmly by Pakistan. We are ready to cooperate in every sector, including education.”
