ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan Thursday said that Imran Khan had directed the party’s members to resign from the chairmanship and membership of the Punjab Assembly’s standing committees.

Talking to the media after meeting the party founder Imran Khan in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, Gohar said that Khan Sahib had also issued instructions regarding Punjab.

“Just as we had resigned from the standing committees in the National Assembly and the Senate, our members will also resign from the chairmanship and membership of the standing committees of the Punjab Assembly. We have 107 MPAs and head about 14 standing committees in the provincial assembly,” he noted.

When asked about the rumours about Ali Amin Gandapur being removed from the party post after he was asked to resign from the post of Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gohar termed all the news mere rumours and said that there was no uncertain situation in the party and there was no problem with his chairmanship either.

On the developments regarding the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Barrister Gohar said that Imran Khan praised Ali Amin Gandapur, calling him one of his few sincere colleagues and said that he was a strong member of the party.

However, the PTI founder has a strong stance on terrorism that any operation without a political strategy will fail. “Whatever operation you do, if there are civilian casualties in it, it pushes more people towards extremism, that is why Imran Khan said, our party, government and province cannot afford it, so we wanted some big and fundamental change,” the party chairman said.

The PTI chairman said that the party supremo is keen to complete this change process in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government as soon as possible. He said that the cabinet will remain intact, however, the PTI chief will finalise the names of the ministers after the formation of the new setup.

He made it clear if he resigns from his seat today, the PTI will cease to exist, as the party’s intra-party polls case is pending before the ECP.

Senator Barrister Ali Zafar, who is PTI’s parliamentary leader in the Senate, said that the founder has emphasised that Ali Amin Gandapur is his loyal companion, however, he could not implement the strategy against terrorism.
