Pak-Saudi defence accord to boost economic, trade ties: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Wednesday stressed that Pakistan held the recent joint defence agreement with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in high esteem.

He emphasized that the agreement would further strengthen the multi-dimensional economic, strategic, defence and trade ties between the two brotherly nations. The prime minister received Chairman of the Shura Council of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Sheikh and his high delegation that called on him, the PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

 During the meeting, the prime minister particularly appreciated the kingdom’s efforts in economic and social development and the empowerment of women. 

The Saudi Shura Council chairman termed the recent joint defence agreement as highly significant and reflective of the deep-rooted fraternal ties between the peoples of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. He also stressed the importance of enhancing parliamentary cooperation between the two countries. 

Separately, addressing a luncheon held at the PM House in honour of the visiting Saudi delegation led by Saudi-Pakistan Joint Business Council Chairman Prince Mansour bin Mohammad bin Saad Al Saud, the prime minister said the Pakistan-Saudi Arabia defence cooperation agreement is rooted in brotherhood and mutual trust, emphasising that both nations, by working together, can secure a stronger position in the global community. 

The prime minister underlined that the Pakistan-Saudi defence pact formalises a relationship founded on deep fraternity. Prince Mansour bin Mohammad bin Saad Al Saud, in his remarks, said that he had met senior Saudi ministers before arriving in Pakistan to brief them on potential strategic projects. 

Meanwhile, the prime minister, in a meeting with members of the government’s negotiating committee following the successful conclusion of the negotiation process in Azad Kashmir, appreciated their efforts for resolving the matter amicably. The prime minister also praised the AJK Joint Action Committee for showing understanding and support for Kashmir’s development and prosperity.
