CHARSADDA: The federal and provincial governments have so far failed to provide security to Awami National Party (ANP) President Aimal Wali Khan at Wali Bagh, Charsadda.

According to sources, a few personnel from the local Khan Mahi Police Station were deployed for his security, but Aimal Wali reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the arrangement and sent them back.

Meanwhile, ANP’s former president and Aimal Wali’s father, Asfandyar Wali Khan, continues to receive official security, with nine police personnel assigned duties at Wali Bagh.Sources at Wali Bagh said that when Aimal Wali left for Islamabad to attend a Senate session, he was accompanied by ANP workers serving as private security guards.

In another development, at a joint press conference, ANP Charsadda district president Shakil Khan Umarzai and general secretary Shehzaduddin condemned the withdrawal of Aimal Wali’s security, terming it an act of political victimisation. They said the move had caused anger and resentment among Pakhtuns, adding that the federal government’s action had exposed Aimal Wali to potential threats.

The ANP leaders maintained that it was the government’s responsibility to ensure the safety of public representatives and vowed that the party would neither bow to pressure nor succumb to any kind of blackmail. They demanded that the federal and provincial governments immediately restore security for Aimal Wali Khan.
