LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday chaired a marathon three-hour video link meeting of commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to review their Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), which include the progress of electrobus project, flood survey operations and public service delivery benchmarks.

She stressed that the maintenance, discipline and passenger facilities of the new electric bus service would now form part of the official KPIs for each district administration. She directed that a dedicated bus stand be established for electrobuses at every designated stop to ensure smooth operations.

Reviewing flood relief operations, Maryam directed the administration to ensure a transparent and speedy flood survey in all affected areas. She warned that any delay or manipulation in data collection would not be tolerated.

Officials briefed the Chief Minister that 2,233 survey teams are visiting flood-hit households across 27 districts — even using boats in remote areas — to gather accurate data.

DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia informed that so far, data of 127,000 victims has been compiled, along with crop loss details from 88,865 farmers, covering 342,000 acres of flood-affected land.

Teams have also documented 37,044 damaged houses and reported the loss of 5,836 livestock from 1,400 affected families.

Kathia said the survey operation involves personnel from the Pakistan Army, Urban Unit, and the Revenue, Agriculture, and Livestock Departments, while PDMA Punjab reviews progress daily.

He noted that flood victims have expressed satisfaction and gratitude toward the Chief Minister and PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, appreciating the government’s swift response.

Maryam reaffirmed that “every rightful person will receive their due support transparently and fairly.” The CM also ordered the cultivation of wheat on all available government agricultural land, directing the Agriculture Department to provide high-quality seeds to boost production.

Expressing displeasure over the recurrence of stray dog bite incidents, she remarked: “It is absolutely unacceptable for citizens, especially children, to be injured due to stray dog bites. Immediate action must be taken to end this negligence.”

To ensure the safety of schoolchildren, Maryam Nawaz ordered the installation of zebra crossings and speed-reduction boards on roads outside both public and private schools.

She further instructed the district administrations to oversee the maintenance and repair of more than 5,000 water filtration plants across Punjab, ensuring clean drinking water for citizens.

Directing surprise visits to government hospitals, she urged deputy commissioners to ensure free medicine availability and to check corruption or illegal demands from patients.

She also ordered strict enforcement of the official bread price list across the province.

Acknowledging the efforts of ‘Suthra Punjab’ teams, the Chief Minister praised their contribution but directed that any gaps in cleanliness or workforce shortages be addressed immediately.

She approved the recruitment of additional sanitation workers, declaring: “There will be no compromise on the cleanliness of cities and villages, nor will negligence be tolerated.”

Maryam congratulated the officers who excelled in their KPIs and urged underperforming officials to improve. “Those who deliver results will be appreciated, while those lagging behind must raise their standards,” she said.

In a separate message on Teachers’ Day, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif paid rich tribute to educators, saying: “Millions of blessings and greetings be upon the greatest teacher, Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). One day is not enough to recognise a teacher’s greatness; it is timeless and unparalleled.” She said teachers were the most credible and respected segment of society, noting that recent awards for top students and their teachers were a token of that respect.

“A good teacher not only imparts knowledge but also instils moral values. Teachers are the positive force that lays the foundation for real change,” she added.
