Q1: Dear Mr Abidi, I have completed a BSc in Civil Engineering from NUST and have been offered a scholarship by HEC for Turkey, Italy and South Korea. Kindly guide which country and its university will be helpful for further postgraduate study? (Khurram Abbas, Islamabad)

Ans: Dear Khurram, in order for me to suggest you any of the asked options, I would require details which include your CGPA, your area of specialisation within civil engineering and what are your plans after completing your studies. Here’s what you should do: shortlist the university based on the type of course being offered, the interest that you have in that particular area, faculty and research rankings should be key factors when selecting your university.

Q2: Dear sir, I have done BA with Journalism, History of Islam and Pakistan, and Arabic from Punjab University with 1st Division. For my masters, I have an offer from PU in International Relations. I am also interested in Journalism. Kindly guide me on the best path considering the fact that I plan to do CSS after Masters. (Arham Sheikh, Lahore)

Ans: Dear Arham, as far as I can see you are on the right track having done your BA with Social Science. I would recommend masters in IR instead of Mass Communication. All you need to attempt a CSS is a high proficiency in English communication and comprehension, extensive knowledge about current affairs, international and local politics, and social and economic factors in the region, which you will learn in IR. And, if you have basic science knowledge then with the above combination you should be home.

Q3: Dear sir, I have recently completed my ICom and I really like this field. I need your advice about BS Accounting & Finance and its related scope here in Pakistan? (Fajar Ashfaq Cheema, Gujrat)

Ans: Dear Fajar, Accounting and Finance as subjects are among the core areas in the management and social science field.

Doing a degree, however, is not enough until/unless you have a vision and a chosen career path to specialise and put to work your qualifications towards any specific area of specialty. I hope the above information will be useful to you.

Q4: Dear Mr Abidi, I have done my O-Levels with 5A* and 4A, now I am doing my A levels in Chemistry, Physics, Math and Computer Science. I have done my AS and I have a keen interest in different fields concerning Physics, Computer Sciences, Management, and Art and Design. I want to pursue a field that has ample career opportunities, pays well, and is suitable for girls. (Fareeha Aziz, Lahore)

Ans: Dear Fareeha, the combination of Physics, Computer Science and Management is very lethal and ideal for several emerging professions especially for females. Though I would like to meet you at some point to provide you further guidance after a one-to-one counselling session I feel you should start searching and investigating the following degrees:

Management Information Systems, Internet Security, Cybercrime and Investigative Management, Digital Forensics etc.
