ISLAMABAD: Acting President Sardar Ayaz Sadiq Saturday said emerging hope for a ceasefire in Gaza is a positive and encouraging development, which would pave the way for lasting peace in the Middle East.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in a statement acknowledged the pivotal role played by the leadership of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkiye, Jordan, Egypt, and Indonesia in facilitating ceasefire efforts.He appreciated the constructive engagement of Muslim leaders during their meeting with the US president, where they adopted a firm stance for an immediate cessation of war in Gaza.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq welcomed Hamas’s statement, calling it the first crucial step towards peace.
He emphasised that further measures would be necessary to ensure that this progress continues and leads to sustainable stability in the region.
The Acting President also reaffirmed that the sacrifices of the Palestinian people would not go in vain. He reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to work in close coordination with its friendly and brotherly nations for the establishment of permanent peace in Palestine.He assured that Pakistan will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Palestine.
He reiterated that Pakistan remains steadfast in its moral, political, and diplomatic support for the Palestinian cause and will persist in its efforts to achieve lasting peace, justice, and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.The National Assembly speaker will continue to discharge responsibilities as the Acting President until the return of the President and the Chairman Senate to the country.
Under Article 49(2) of the Constitution of Pakistan, in the absence of both the President and the Chairman Senate, the Speaker National Assembly performs the functions of the Acting President. Accordingly, Secretary Cabinet Division, Kamran Ali Afzal, has issued the official notification confirming that Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has assumed the charge of Acting President.
