ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Ministry has informed the National Assembly that Pakistan currently maintains 128 diplomatic and consular missions abroad.
Out of these, 34 are consulates general/consulates, while the remaining 94 are embassies/permanent missions.
In response to a query raised by Ms. Shahida Rehmani, the Foreign Ministry stated that Pakistan had temporarily closed its embassies in North Korea (March 4, 2021), Yemen (March 29, 2015), and Sudan (July 2023) due to prevailing security concerns, travel restrictions, and/or difficult political and living conditions.
The ministry further explained that these temporary closures were a functional requirement, necessitated by the situation on the ground in the host countries.
Until the reopening of these embassies, diplomatic and consular affairs are being managed by designated missions.
