ISLAMABAD: The government on Wednesday rolled out its first-ever electronic balloting for electric two- and three-wheelers under the Pakistan Accelerated Vehicle Electrification (PAVE) Scheme, marking what officials called a milestone in the country’s transition toward clean and affordable mobility.

Federal Secretary for Industries and Production Saif Anjum inaugurated the digital draw, which allocated 40,000 electric motorcycles and 1,000 electric rickshaws among successful applicants from across Pakistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir. The event was overseen by the Engineering Development Board (EDB), with CEO Khuda Bux and Additional Secretary Asif Saeed Lughmani present.

The Ministry of Industries & Production said it received 269,161 applications for the scheme. Using the PAVE Online Portal, a Balloting Oversight Committee carried out the draw to ensure transparency. Applicants can check results using their CNIC or application ID, while original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) will manage delivery, after-sales service, and warranties.

Under the scheme, buyers will receive Rs50,000 in subsidies for two-wheelers purchased via bank leasing and Rs80,000 for self-financed purchases. For three-wheelers, subsidies stand at Rs200,000 and Rs400,000, respectively.

Anjum said the initiative supports Pakistan’s National Electric Vehicle Policy (NEVP), which aims for 30pc of all new vehicles sold by 2030 to be electric. The scheme is expected to save $1 billion annually in fuel imports, cut 4.5 million tons of carbon emissions, and lower health costs tied to pollution. Officials added that the PAVE scheme, aligned with NEVP 2025–30, could generate more than 100,000 green jobs, spur local manufacturing, and strengthen Pakistan’s industrial base. “This is the beginning of Pakistan’s green transport revolution,” Anjum said.
