ISLAMABAD: PPP leader Senator Sherry Rehman has warned the PML-N that its criticism is jeopardising their political alliance, stating the PPP will not be silenced on public issues and its support for the government cannot be taken for granted.
“PPP will continue to protest on every important issue, both inside and outside Parliament,” she stated during a media talk on Tuesday. Reflecting on past, she added,”In times of crisis, from floods to water disputes, our approach to Punjab has never been one of blame. The PPP has always insisted on respectful engagement with our allies.” Questioning the tone of the recent attacks, Sherry issued a pointed warning: “Coalition politics does not mean saying whatever comes to mind. If this attitude continues, then what benefit is there for the PPP to keep supporting the government?”
Sherry reminded the ruling party that the public is watching closely. “Launching a war of words through TV or rallies is not responsible politics. Why would anyone object to Chairman Bilawal’s call for immediate and effective flood relief
The Senator stressed that unity and mutual respect between provinces and coalition partners are vital while flood victims endure immense hardship. “All provinces belong to Pakistan,” she said. “The better way forward is for provinces to share their concerns and listen to one another, not trade barbs on television screens.” She also underscored the global recognition of the Benazir Income Support Programme as one of the world’s best social protection models. “Had relief been delivered to flood victims through BISP, much of their suffering could have been alleviated,” she remarked.
