ISLAMABAD: Senate Committee on Delegated Legislation Chairperson Senator Naseema Ehsan has recommended raising the upper age limit for the Central Superior Services (CSS) examinations, noting that students from underprivileged areas often start their education late and deserve an equal chance to compete.
The committee met at the Parliament House on Monday under Senator Ehsan’s chairmanship and received a detailed briefing from officials of the Establishment Division and the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) secretary on the CSS Examination Rules framed under the FPSC Ordinance, 1977, as well as proposed future reforms.
Senator Bushra Anjum questioned the reasoning behind Punjab’s recent decision to raise the CSS age limit, and the committee directed that a comprehensive explanation be presented in the next meeting.
Members also reviewed the quota allocated for minorities, shared their views, and offered recommendations. Officials informed the committee that many seats remain vacant each year because candidates fail specific subjects.
These vacancies are later re-advertised and often filled in subsequent recruitment cycles. It was further explained that subjects with consistently high failure rates might be moved to the general pool to improve candidates’ chances of qualifying.
A positive trend was highlighted: this year, more women not only filled reserved seats but also succeeded on open merit, reflecting their growing participation and success in the CSS examinations.
