QUETTA: A bench of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) comprising Chief Justice Rozi Khan Bareech and Justice Sardar Ahmed Halimi has declared the government’s decision to impose a travel ban on Balochistan National Party (BNP) chief Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal illegal.
The court directed the government to immediately lift the restriction.
The verdict came during the hearing of a constitutional petition filed by senior lawyer Sajid Tareen Advocate. During the proceedings, petitioner Sajid Tareen, BNP’s Central Secretary Information Agha Hassan Baloch Advocate, Rahib Buledi Advocate and others appeared before the court. After hearing arguments from both sides, the bench ordered the removal of Mengal’s name from the no-fly list.
Speaking to the media after the ruling, BNP Senior Vice President and former president of the Balochistan High Court Bar, Sajid Tareen Advocate, said that Akhtar Jan was being targeted solely for his political stance. “We faced similar actions during Musharraf’s martial law, but we will continue to raise our voice against oppression inside and outside the courts,” he said.
He added that today’s court decision once again proved that such bogus cases and tactics cannot intimidate the BNP or its leadership. “We will continue our struggle for the people of Balochistan,” Tareen said.
