PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders on Tuesday claimed that the biggest rally of the country’s history would be staged in Peshawar on the 27th of this month.
The claim was made by the party leaders Asad Qaiser, Junaid Akbar, Atif Khan and others at a joint press conference.
Asad Qaiser said that the rally in Peshawar would be a historic one. “This will be the biggest rally in the country’s history. Workers from across the country will participate in it,” he said.
Junaid Akbar said that in the past it was the state that decided on holding negotiations. Without naming anyone, he said that a few people should not consider themselves the ultimate authority as such steps would not yield positive results.
“If Afghanistan is a terrorist state, then why don’t these terrorists go to other countries?” he asked, adding that PTI workers were continuously being martyred in Balochistan. He urged the state to act wisely. He said security operations should be carried out in such a way that civilians did not suffer casualties. “Cross-border terrorism is not a provincial matter but a federal issue,” he stressed.
Junaid Akbar lamented that “the law of the jungle” prevailed in the country, where the powerful dictated terms. He added that public trust in the judiciary had weakened.
Referring to the Toshakhana issue, he said that in the past even prime ministers had taken official vehicles. “Maryam Nawaz also took a vehicle from Toshakhana, which she had mentioned in her asset declarations,” he pointed out. “There is no constitutional or legal case against the PTI founder,” he maintained. He said some people were treating the country as their personal property. “By controlling the courts and the Election Commission in this way, hatred among people will only grow,” he warned.
He announced that the “biggest rally in the country’s history” would be held on September 27.
Junaid Akbar said the responsibility for the rally had been assigned to Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and they stand by him.
Regarding protests at Adiala Jail, he clarified that it was not his responsibility to give a call for such demonstrations. “We will not support any kind of military operation and will stand against it,” Junaid Akbar concluded.
