FBR partners with LUMS to train officers in modern tax administration
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has signed a landmark agreement with the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) for the design and delivery of a customised Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programme for FBR officers. The initiative aims to strengthen the professional capacity of Pakistan’s tax administration.
The signing ceremony, held at the FBR Headquarters in Islamabad, was presided over by FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial. It was attended by Members of the Board, senior FBR officers, Director Generals of the Inland Revenue and Customs Academies, and officers of the Transformation Delivery Unit (TDU). Representing LUMS were Provost Dr. Tariq Jadoon and Dr. Adeel Zafar, Dean of the Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB).
In his remarks, the FBR congratulated both the FBR and LUMS teams for designing a rigorous and tailored diploma programme that will equip officers with essential skills in modern tax administration, particularly in digitalization and data analytics.
Earlier, Member (Administration/HR) Mohammad Iqbal highlighted the programme’s key deliverables, including capacity-building in advanced accounting, data analytics, the digital economy, e-commerce, supply chain management, trade analytics, and international taxation.
Speaking on the occasion, SDSB Dean Dr. Adeel Zafar reaffirmed LUMS’ commitment to ensuring the programme’s success. He expressed confidence that this collaboration between FBR and LUMS would be both impactful and enduring.
The PGD programme marks a major milestone under FBR’s Transformation Plan, which seeks to modernise Pakistan’s federal tax administration by strengthening operational expertise, enhancing organisational capacity, and introducing advanced enforcement and digitalisation measures.
The diploma programme will commence on October 20, 2025, with 51 probationary FBR officers participating. As the first initiative of its kind, it aims to provide globally relevant expertise to help officers effectively meet emerging challenges in revenue administration and trade facilitation.
