ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is in talks with Chinese technology firm HYF to set up a laptop and tablet manufacturing industry in the country, signaling Islamabad’s latest push to boost local production and attract foreign investment.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) Haroon Akhtar Khan met with HYF’s chief executive officer on Monday, assuring full government support and security for Chinese investors. The firm specializes in producing laptops, fingerprint devices and tablets. Khan said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to provide “all possible facilitation” to Chinese companies and announced that a forthcoming Mobile Device Policy will also cover laptops and tablets.
To smooth investor entry, the government has eased its visa regime for Chinese nationals, allowing visit and business visas to be issued within 24 to 72 hours. Khan also instructed the Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) and the Engineering Development Board (EDB) to extend full cooperation to HYF to establish the project.
