QUETTA: Assistant Commissioner of Ziarat, Muhammad Afzal Baqi, who was abducted along with his son, has been killed.
Levies forces launched a search operation on Sunday after receiving information about two bodies found in the mountainous Zardalu area of Harnai district.
According to officials, drones were also deployed to locate the bodies in the difficult terrain, and the operation continued late into the night.
It may be recalled that on August 10, Afzal Baqi and his son, Mustansar Bilal, were abducted from the tourist site Zearzi Point in Ziarat. During his captivity, on September 3, 2025, Afzal Baqi reached his official retirement from government service.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti strongly condemned the killing, calling it a cowardly and brutal act.” He said, “The martyred Assistant Commissioner, Muhammad Afzal, was a dutiful, hardworking, and capable officer who performed his responsibilities with honesty and integrity. He sacrificed his life in the line of duty and will always live in the hearts of the people.”
The chief minister paid tribute to the sacrifices of Afzal Baqi, vowing that “his blood will not go in vain. The killers of innocent people and enemies of peace will not escape justice.” He also expressed sympathy with the bereaved family, assuring them of the provincial government’s full support.
“The sacrifices of the martyrs will remain a guiding light in our struggle for peace and stability in Balochistan,” Bugti added.
