Conservation plan unveiled for Sheikhupura Fort

LAHORE : The Punjab government has approved an ambitious three-year programme to conserve and revive the centuries-old Sheikhupura Fort.

The announcement came during a detailed visit by the Secy Tourism Dr Ehsan Bhutta to the heritage site, accompanied by the DG Archaeology, the General Manager Administration of the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP), the AC Sheikhupura and other senior officers. 

 Briefing the delegation, officers of the Archaeology Directorate said the scheme would focus on structural preservation and adaptive reuse of the fort, which has suffered years of neglect.

The secretary inspected sections of the monument marked for rehabilitation and stressed that “both short-term and long-term measures must move in tandem to protect this asset and make it welcoming for visitors.”
