FBR suspends ex-director of Post Clearance Audit

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has suspended the former Director of Post Clearance Audit (PCA) under Efficiency and Disciplinary rules for a period of 120 days.

First of all, he was transferred from the PCA and appointed to the FBR, but now he has been suspended for 120 days.

According to a notification issued by the FBR, in exercise of powers conferred under Rule-5(1) of the Civil Servants (Efficiency & Discipline) Rules, 2020, the Authority has placed Mr Sheeraz Ahmad (PCS/BS-19), presently posted as Secretary, Federal Board of Revenue (HQ), Islamabad, under suspension with immediate effect, for a period of 120 days, the FBR notification added.

FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial had addressed a press briefing a few days back in which he announced that strict action would be taken against those who had prepared a report against Faceless Customs Assessment (FCA) for causing revenue loss of Rs100 billion without having solid grounds, and this report was also leaked to the media.

The Customs group within the fold of the FBR has been grappling with the challenge of sharp division as one group is extending all out support to the FCA and its rollout throughout the country while others are giving staunch opposition and want to reverse this clearance system. However, fixing of rampant leakages at the customs through entry and exit points could save trillion of rupees of national exchequer.
