Martyred cop’s FIR lodged under ATA

The Shah Latif Town police have registered a case of the murder of Police Head Constable Abdul Karim, who was shot dead by terrorists in Usman Khaskheli Goth, Memon Goth Road, on September 11.

Officials said the case was registered under Section 302/34 over the murder and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) on the complaint of the deceased’s brother Muhammad Asif. The policeman was posted at the Memon Goth police station and was targeted and killed while going on duty.

The complainant said in his statement that his elder brother Abdul Karim, 39, left for duty at 7:30pm on his motorcycle in uniform to go to the Memon Goth police station on September 11. After a while, he said, one of his relatives, Jamil Jokhio, informed him over the phone that Abdul Karim had been shot near Usman Khaskheli Goth. He said along with his relatives and reached the spot and found his brother dead. The body was taken to Jinnah Hospital.

Head Constable Karim was martyred when unknown suspects opened fire on him in Shah Latif Town. The police recovered 9mm pistol shells from the crime scene. The cop was shot in the chest, stomach and arm. The martyred officer was the father of a child and his family belonged to the interior of Sindh. He had been recruited in the police department in 2014.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and said the sacrifices of the police personnel would not go in vain.

He directed the IGP to immediately arrest the culprits. He added that the Sindh government would not leave the families of the martyrs alone. Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar took notice of the incident and sought a report from the District Malir SSP. He said the task of arresting the culprits should be given to an expert and competent officer.

Meanwhile, Karachi police chief Javed Alam Odho took strict notice of the martyrdom of the head constable and said police personnel were negligent and ignored the instructions issued by the higher officers as they did not make any security arrangements for his subordinates.
