ISLAMABAD: Parliamentarians belonging to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) staged a walkout on Friday in a failed attempt to disrupt the proceedings of the National Assembly.
As the PTI-supported MNAs walked out of the proceedings, one of their colleagues, Iqbal Afridi, pointed out a lack of quorum. However, upon counting, the House—which was prorogued later—was found to be in order.
Speaking on a point of order, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said their representation was being reduced with the disqualification of MNAs. He also raised issues relating to the loss of lives and property in the Buner flood. On this occasion, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq regretted the attitude of the opposition members at a time when the House was discussing important issues like the country’s floods. “In these critical circumstances, the non-serious attitude of the opposition in pointing out lack of quorum and staging a walkout is regrettable and against fulfilling national responsibilities,” he said. He said the opposition should demonstrate seriousness and responsible behaviour so that collective efforts could be made for the resolution of issues.
Meanwhile, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar informed the House that all available resources would be utilised with the cooperation of the provinces for the rehabilitation of flood-affected people.
