Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority’s Development Working Party (CDA-DWP) at its 77th meeting approved development projects costing over Rs2 billion here Thursday.
A budget of Rs1404.24 million was approved for construction of 20 underground water tanks at various locations to prevent wastage of rainwater. Under this project, 10 huge water tanks will be constructed during first phase to store clean water flowing through natural streams.
Another 10 tanks would be constructed in the next phase. The representative of WASA informed that the tanks have helped in better water conservation in Lahore and they would share their expertise in this connection with the CDA.
Approval was also granted to construct 11 wetlands to eliminate water pollution in natural streams and channels as these wetlands will treat polluted water before releasing it back into water resources.
CDA chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa presided over the meeting. Projects related to road infrastructure and service delivery were also approved.
Construction of RCC sewer pipeline in low-lying areas from T.Chowk to Soan River was also approved. Upgradation of cricket and football grounds was approved also.
Five cricket and as many football grounds will be modernized and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The revenue generated from these cricket and football grounds will be used for promoting sports and talent hunt programmes. Plan to construct Rainwater Rechargeable Wells at various locations to conserve water was okayed.
