MINGORA: Electricity supply has been restored in several flood-affected areas and repair work continues in other parts of the city, officials said on Thursday.

According to officials, power has been restored in Lendakas, Katlai, Malak Baba, Makan Bagh and adjoining areas in Mingora, the headquarters of Swat district, after the replacement of damaged transformers and poles. Work is still under way in Sharif Abad, Al-Huda Lendakas, and Bangladesh areas, where new poles and transformers are being installed. The officials said that Sui gas supply has also been partially restored in some areas, though many localities remain without gas.

Meanwhile, tube wells damaged by floods have yet to be replaced, creating severe water shortages for residents.

On the relief front, the district administration has begun distributing compensation cheques among flood victims. Deputy Commissioner, Swat, Saleem Jan said payments were being made according to the damage assessment survey.
