HANGU: At least three personnel of the Federal Constabulary (FC) were martyred and 17 others sustained injuries when militants attacked their fort in Torawari area here late Sunday night, police said on Monday.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Hangu Muhammad Khalid, militants armed with heavy and automatic weapons attacked the fort in the jurisdiction of Doaba Police Station. The martyred personnel were identified as Naik Sadiq Hussain, sepoy Abdul Ghaffar and sepoy Zawar.
Soon after the incident, DSP Mujahid Hussain, SHO Imranuddin and other police officials rushed to the site and engaged the attackers in a heavy exchange of fire. During a subsequent search operation, a militant facilitator identified as Jangrez Khan, son of Saifur, was killed.
Police said Jangrez had been waiting outside his house and opened fire on security personnel, prompting retaliatory fire that left him dead on the spot. The funeral prayers for the martyred personnel were offered at the FC Lines in Hangu.
