LAHORE: The police Friday took Aleema Khan’s second son into custody in May-9 riots case.
According to SSP Investigation, Sher Shah Khan, the nephew of PTI founder Imran Khan, was arrested in the May 9 riots case and investigations were underway.
Family sources said Sher Shah was arrested when he was returning from court with his father.
According to the family sources, the officials who arrested Sher Shah were the same who had arrested Aleema Khan’s elder son Shahrez Khan.
He was presented in the court on Friday from where he was handed over to the police on an 8-day physical remand. An anti-terrorism court (ATC) handed over Shahrez, nephew of PTI founder, to police in May 9 Jinnah House attack case.
The police produced Shahrez before ATC Judge Manzer Ali Gill and submitted that the accused was named in a supplementary statement and requested the court to grant a 30-day physical remand for recovery of mobile phone and investigations.
However, defence counsel Salman Akram Raja opposed the request, arguing that Shahrez had been arrested after a two-year delay without any concrete evidence. He pleaded with the court to discharge his client from the case.
Police insisted that Shahrez Khan was directly involved in the Jinnah House attack and submitted case records before the court.
After hearing detailed arguments of parties, the court reserved its verdict for a short while.
Later, the court handed over Shahrez to police on physical remand and ordered for his production upon completion of the remand term.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf strongly condemned what it termed the “brazen and unlawful abduction” of Aleema’s second son.
In a statement issued by the PTI Central Media Department, the party called the arrest a clear sign that Pakistan was being governed by the “law of the jungle.” The party urged Chief Justice of Pakistan to urgently intervene, take notice of the incident, and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice without delay.
