ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Wednesday issued the schedule for by-elections on two National Assembly and one Punjab assembly constituencies, fixing October 5 as the polling date.
The seats NA 143 Sahiwal-III, NA 185-DG Khan and PP 203, Sahiwal-VI, had fallen vacant due to disqualification of the PTI-backed Rai Hassan Nawaz, Zartaj Gul, MNAs, and Rai Muhammad Murtaza Iqbal, MPA.
According to the schedule, the returning officers will issue the public notice on August 26 while nomination papers will be received from the candidates on August 28-30. The nominated candidates list will be displayed on Aug 30, whereas the scrutiny of the nomination papers will be conducted on September 3 and the last date for filing of appeals against the decisions of the returning officers is September 8.
The last date for the appellate tribunal to decide on such appeals is September 12 and the revised list of candidates will be published next day. The last date for withdrawal of candidature has been fixed as September 15 and this will be followed by publication of final list of candidates the same day.
Symbols to the contesting candidates will be allotted on September 16 and polling will be held on October 5 (Sunday).
The legislators, belonging to the opposition party, were convicted by the anti-terrorist court and subsequently notified as disqualified by the Election Commission.
