RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will hold a rally on August 14 to advocate fundamental freedoms and show solidarity with Pakistan and party founder Imran Khan.
PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja has clarified that the event is not a protest but a celebration of Independence. Speaking to reporters outside the Adiala Jail on Tuesday, he said the party supporters would join Independence Day celebrations to raise their voice for various freedoms.
“We believe the current situation in Pakistan is not what was envisioned by Quaid-i-Azam,” he said.
He criticized the current legal system, calling recent punishments “unjust”.
He noted that in many cases, the testimony and evidence were uniform, with only two police officers presented as witnesses before the verdict was announced.
When asked about the future role of senior leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who has been released from jail, Raja said he could not comment on specifics.
He emphasized that within the PTI, only the founder’s instructions were followed and that Qureshi would comply with any directives from Khan.
Raja concluded by stating that the current system in Pakistan was in conflict with democratic principles.
