LAHORE: The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) is positioning itself for a transformative period in the country’s football landscape, with a comprehensive 15-point agenda finalised for its upcoming Executive Committee meeting that promises to reshape the sport’s future in Pakistan.
The agenda, circulated among committee members, encompasses crucial decisions spanning administrative restructuring, competitive frameworks, and strategic partnerships that will define Pakistani football for years to come.
According to sources within the federation, the race for the pivotal position of PFF General Secretary has intensified, with two prominent candidates emerging as frontrunners. Shahid Khokhar and Colonel Hamdani are vying for the role, with the final decision expected during the executive session. This appointment will play a crucial role in the federation’s day-to-day operations and long-term strategic implementation.
The Executive Committee will deliberate extensively on domestic competitions, marking a significant shift in Pakistan’s football infrastructure. Key discussions include launching of Franchise League; Restructuring of Premier League; Challenge Cup enhancement.
These initiatives represent the PFF’s commitment to creating a robust domestic ecosystem that can nurture talent and provide sustainable competitive opportunities for Pakistani footballers.
The PFF has also made strategic coaching appointments to strengthen its national team programs across multiple formats: Pakistan has been drawn in Group B alongside India, Bhutan, and Maldives, setting up intriguing regional rivalries and competitive challenges.
In a significant move for Pakistan’s futsal development, Sakhawat Ali has been appointed head coach of the national futsal team. He will guide the squad through the AFC Futsal Asian Cup Qualifiers, marking Pakistan’s debut appearance in this continental competition. The Executive Committee meeting will address several foundational aspects of the federation’s operations.
PFF President Mohsin Gilani is expected to provide comprehensive briefings on recent high-level meetings with FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). These discussions are crucial for Pakistan’s standing within the global football community and accessing development programs and funding opportunities.
