ISLAMABAD: Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif on Monday said that he would reveal names of bureaucrats who were purchasing properties in Portugal with ill-gotten money.
Speaking to Geo News, the veteran politician said once he had raised the issue, he was also holding an inquiry on his own and would also disclose names of bureaucrats who were securing properties in Portugal.
Khawaja Asif said that would also tell as to who was facilitating bureaucrats to purchase properties, adding that their photos were also available, asking the media to hold their own investigations.
The minister, while stressing that officers should follow laws and regulations, regretted that there has been no accountability of bureaucracy in the last 78 years. “I am living in two bedrooms flat for the last 25 years keeping my own car and no official vehicle,” he said.
He said that the Sialkot additional deputy commissioner revenue was arrested on complaint of a housing society, adding that anti-corruption officials were conducting investigations. “I have nothing to do with the issue. The official will be punished if found guilty otherwise action will be taken against complainant,” he said.
Khawaja Asif said that recently he held meeting with PMLN supremo Nawaz Sharif to discuss upcoming bye-elections on vacant seats in Punjab. “Nawaz Sharif is my leader and Quaid,” he said. He said that Maryam Nawaz was like her daughter more than the chief minister and he always prays for her. Khawaja Asif also dispelled speculations about his resignation as federal minister.
